Housing and Residence Life is working with Parking and Transportation Services to move your parking location for the duration of your temporary assignment. You will receive an email from Parking and Transportation Services with your new assignment.
For our first round of relocated students, you were provided $200 dining dollars on January 28 and will receive an additional $350 on February 1.
For our second round of relocated students (must be relocated by the evening of January 31), you will receive $550 dining dollars on February 1.
We allocated dining dollars based on the meal plan options provided by Dining to most closely reflect the cost of breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the dining hall. These are not specific meal swipes, but dining dollars that you can use at dining halls or retail locations on campus.
You are responsible for allocating these dollars during this time. If additional time is required to complete repairs in your apartment, we will provide additional dining resources. Please note that any unused dining dollars will be removed from your account once your permanent assignment is ready.
We are unable to share the floor diagrams, as they are based on an initial assessment. Once work begins, conditions may change. To assist with any questions about your specific space, we will host an open office hour on Friday, January 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Join HERE.
While it’s difficult to guarantee that similar situations won’t occur, we are looking into ways to better address potential risks moving forward. Extreme weather puts pressure on our building systems, and we are working with our campus partners to review systems, exploring additional preventive measures, and considering possible updates to infrastructure and building systems for the future. We are dedicated to continually improving and adapting our approach to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved.
You do not need to pack and move all your belongings to your temporary assignment. We encourage you to pack for a two week stay, including clothing, medications, toiletries, necessary food/kitchen items, and any supplies needed for academic work.
You should remove and pack away all loose items: on top of furniture, on the floor, hanging on the walls. If it isn’t inside a drawer or cabinet, store it. Contractors will move items in your space and cover them to protect from dust, but we encourage you to square away anything you wouldn’t want others to handle. We will provide boxes to store items in the center of your room. Additionally, anything of significant monetary or sentimental value should go with you to the temporary space or be stored in boxes.
You can make additional trips to your room as you remember needed items by requesting assistance from the North Avenue Area Office or the RA on Duty. All impacted residents will lose electronic access to their apartment by their requested move out date, so residents should pack with that in mind. As contractors will be actively working, you will not be able to spend time in your apartment.
As the contractors will be efficiently working through your spaces, they will not have the ability to grant you additional time to return to your space to pack if the scope of work changes. Please pack your belongings with the assumption that work may need to be done in any space within your apartment. You should remove and pack away all loose items: on top of furniture, on the floor, hanging on the walls. If it isn’t inside a drawer or cabinet, store it. As more information is provided by the contractors or updates to your space, we will send an email to your Georgia Tech email. We will continue to update this FAQ page as well.
Yes, you can leave items in your drawers and dresser. We encourage you to pack loose items sitting on top of your desk, dresser, drawers and put away anything you wouldn’t want others to handle.
Contractors are beginning work on the 10th floor and working their way down the floors. However, if a full apartment was relocated during the first round, contractors will start working on those spaces first too.
As contractors begin work in your apartment, there is always a chance for additional work to be necessary. However, with your full apartment being relocated, we hope to work efficiently through your space to move you back within the estimated time frame of two weeks.
Our goal is for residents to move back to their relocated spaces approximately two weeks after work begins in their space. For the first round of relocated students, we anticipate that you will be able to move back by February 10. For the second round of relocated students, we anticipate that you will be able to move back by February 14.
Yes, with completely empty apartments, contractors will be working throughout the week and over the weekend to make repairs.
If your temporary assignment is extended, we will notify you via your Georgia Tech email as soon as we are made aware that the timeline has been extended. We will also send a text message that you have been emailed an update.
If you are provided a rent credit for a temporary assignment in a suite or traditional residence hall, you will receive the daily rate for your apartment for the number of nights that you were relocated. Rent credits will be processed after you are notified that you can return to your apartment. Rent credits are credited to your Georgia Tech Bursar Account and can be applied to any bill on your account or provided as a refund if you have a $0.00 balance.
If you have specific questions about your apartment or bedspace, please attend virtual office hours tomorrow, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. Join HERE.
If you only received $200 dining dollars, you would receive an additional $350 on Saturday, February 1.
Contractors will not unplug the refrigerator and loss of power is not expected for the project. Please verify that the refrigerator is working properly before leaving the apartment.
Blue indicates that contractors will be replacing the flooring in the space.
First round of relocations will be extended until February 10.
