FAQs

You can find FAQs addressing a range of topics, from pre-arrival preparations to post-arrival support such as campus resources and student services. These FAQs are designed to help you smoothly transition to campus life and make the most of your residential experience.

How will I hear from Housing and Residence Life?

Emails

We try our best to email residents only when there is valuable information to share. Residents should look out for our emails, particularly those regarding:

  • Housing contract and application information
  • Maintenance alerts
  • Our monthly newsletter of resident news (click here to see the archive of past newsletters)

All email communications will be sent to a student’s official Georgia Tech email address, except for recently accepted students who have yet to receive their campus email address. In those cases, we will email the address included on a student’s housing application.

Text Messages

In an effort to make our communication more accessible to residents, Housing and Residence Life sends text messages about important updates or exciting opportunities. Additionally, we will message residents in the event of a facility emergency in their hall (fire, gas leak, etc.).

Not receiving our texts? We can only send messages to U.S.-based phone numbers. If you’d like to provide a more accurate number for us to message, you can update that information following these steps at My Housing:

1. From the home page, click on the menu icon on the top left of the page.

2. Select your name from the menu that appears to see your “My Details” page.

3. Here, you can update your phone number and your preferred name, if you choose.

How do I get my Buzzcard?

Submit your photo online by the deadline to receive your Buzzcard at fall move-in. You will receive all deadlines via email. If you miss the deadline, you will receive detailed instructions when you move-in about how to get your Buzzcard.

What kinds of emergency support are available on campus?

We offer residents 24/7 support while living on campus. Every hall contains a team of student Resident Assistants who live on the floors with residents to offer support and connection for their community. We also have a professional staff team assigned to every hall including a full-time Hall Director and Area Manager. Residents are encouraged to get to know their Hall Directors and to reach out to them with any concerns. After business hours, residents can call their Resident Assistant on Duty for any after-hours emergencies. Through our protocols, we can help get residents connected to resources including the GT Police DepartmentGT Counseling CenterGT Voice Advocates, and in-house support including after-hours maintenance and custodial services. In addition, each semester residents participate in a unannounced fire drill to prepare for any fire emergencies.

What happens if I'm not getting along with my roommate?

If you are not getting along with your roommate, we first encourage you to discuss the matter directly with them to try and resolve it. If you would like your Resident Assistant present for the conversation, that can also be arranged. Many roommate disagreements can be resolved and do not require advanced mediation. If you are still having concerns with your roommate after speaking with them, please speak to your Hall Director for additional support.
