Below is a list of our most Frequently Asked Questions. These are general and student specific. If you can't find what you need, contact the Housing Department directly.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

First-Year Students
  • While the majority of first-year students live on campus, it is not required.
  • See the First-Year Experience page for information about the First-Year Experience program.
Undergraduate Transfer Students
  • If you prepay and apply for housing before the designated May 1 deadline for fall semester, you will be given priority.
  • Room availability in spring and summer is adequate, and an application deadline is not necessary.
Contracts, Rent, and Payment
  • Contracts
    • Contracts are accepted online and may be viewed or printed, as needed.
    • If you need official proof of residency, contact the Central Housing office at 404-894-2470.
  • Prepayment
    • The housing prepayment is applied to your semester rent with the exception of a one-time non-refundable $80.00 application fee.
    • You can submit your housing prepayment online at ePay.
    • Be sure to select Deposits on the navigation bar.

 

Deposits tab

  • Rent
    • Rental rates are included on the Details page for each building on the Housing Options buildings list.
    • Rental rates may be found on the Rates page, also.
  • Payments
    • See Payment Options on the Bursar website for various methods of payment to the Institute.
    • All fees including meal plans, housing, and tuition must be paid to the Office of the Bursar by the payment deadline indicated on the official Georgia Tech Academic Calendar.
    • Certain returning students are eligible for a delay of prepayment. A delay of prepayment will allow you to complete the housing application without making a prepayment. Since a prepayment is applied to your semester rent, the delay makes it possible for you to pay the entire semester rent according to the dates indicated by the official Georgia Tech Academic Calendar.
    • If you accept the delay and cancel your application at a later date, you will be billed according to the Application/Cancellation Penalty Schedule that you agreed to in the housing application.
Rooms
  • We do not offer tours of the residence halls at any time due to privacy reasons. Click here and select any building to take a 360º virtual tour.
  • Visit our Room Specifications page to find a description of your room type and furniture details.
  • Suggested Items to Bring to campus with you.
  • Lofts may not be constructed or erected in any residence hall room; however, most rooms do contain beds that can be arranged in multiple configurations. Please see Lofts for more specific information.
  • Room dimensions:
    • Traditional buildings
      • East Campus - approximately 12’ X 10’ to 15’ X 11’.
      • West Campus - approximately 15’ X 11’.
    • Suite Style
      • Harris – 12’ X 10’.
      • Woodruff – 15’ X 12’.
    • Apartments
      • Bedrooms – approximately 11’ X 8’ 10”.
      • Windows – vary from 44” X 95” to 51” X 116”.
      • Blinds are installed in all windows.
Roommates
  • Roommate searches can be done in My Housing. More information here.
  • Room and roommate information will be available in My Housing as soon as a room assignment has been made and can be viewed on the "Room and Roommate(s) Info" step.
GIH
  • Gender Inclusive Housing is available.

Check In
  • Check-in dates will be provided in the NEWS & EVENTS column of the Housing website, in the online housing application, and emails sent to your Georgia Tech email account.
  • There is a $50 per night per student fee for checking out a room key prior to the start date indicated in your housing contract.
  • Students can remain on campus during holiday breaks and between semesters if they have a room assignment to live on campus for the subsequent semester.
Dining
Laundry
  • Convenient laundry facilities are available for all residents. The location of the laundry for each residence hall is provided on its Building Detail page which can be accessed from the Building List.
  • All laundry room machines are front loading HE washers, and HE detergent pods are recommended for the best results. Washer and dryer progress may be monitored online through LaundryView.
  • BuzzCard is the method of payment, and the cost is:
    • $1.59 per washer load
    • $0.32 for ten minutes to dry
  • Tenth & Home Apartments have full size washers and dryers inside each apartment.
Parking
  • Campus parking is arranged through Parking &Transportation Services.
  • If you do not have a room assignment at the time you need to purchase your parking pass, sign up for the area in which you think will be most convenient to your classes. You may exchange your parking permit at a later date or join a permit wait list if your preferred lot/deck is unavailable.
Addresses
  • After your application is received by Georgia Tech you will be given an email account known as the "gtAccount". To activate your account, simply go to www.passport.gatech.edu, click on I need to activate my GT account (Students Only), and enter the required information. The Department of Housing will communicate with students via e-mail as much as possible. Check your GT e-mail account regularly.
  • For instructions on how to access your personal mailing address and your campus mailbox visit the Georgia Tech Post Office website.
  • Deliveries are NOT made to residence halls.

GT ID#
  • The GTID # is a nine digit number used as a student's ID.
  • It will also be assigned after your application to Georgia Tech is received by admissions.

Cancellation
  • If you decide not to attend Georgia Tech or to move off campus, you may cancel your housing online via My Housing.
  • Refer to the housing application/contract for penalties which may apply.
