Interim CIO Jim McGarrah shares a farewell message with the information technology community at Georgia Tech. By now, I am sure you have seen the official announcement that Daren Hubbard has been selected as Georgia Tech’s new Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.  Daren comes to GT from Wayne State University; his first day here will be September 8th.

By now I am sure you have seen the official announcement that Daren Hubbard has been selected as Georgia Tech’s new vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer.  Daren comes to GT from Wayne State University; his first day here will be September 8th.

It is hard for me to believe that I have been fortunate to have been in this role for 13 months – the time has flown by!  But as I stated when I first arrived last July, it has been my honor to have been a part of this team!  And these 13 months have given us some exciting opportunities – settling in after the move to CODA, responding to the University System’s Comprehensive Administrative Review, finalizing our organizational unification, and most recently, COVID!  As an organization, you had already endured additional stressors as both your senior and immediate leadership unexpectedly and suddenly departed from Georgia Tech.  But as a team, you have clearly demonstrated your knowledge, perseverance and resiliency in service to Georgia Tech.

As I told the OIT leadership team, it has been a thrill for me to return and try to contribute in some way to an organization that is already strong and capable.  I have been proud to watch Georgia Tech benefit by your rising to every challenge and providing exemplary outcomes in everything you do.

I have agreed to stay on and help ensure a smooth transition for Daren.  I don’t know how long that might be but am glad I will still have some opportunities to interact with you – even if it is virtually!

I want to thank each of you for what you do every day to enable Georgia Tech to accomplish its missions.  It has truly been my honor to be a part of your team!

Keep charging!
