Bicycles

Georgia Tech aims to define the bicycle-friendly university of the 21st century with a focus on creating a safe, healthy and positive campus biking environment. If you are staying on campus, please review the bicycle guidelines below

Storage

There are several options for storage of bicycles in and around Housing buildings:

  • Some residence halls have bicycle storage rooms within the building. Ask your staff member if your building has one.
  • Bicycle storage racks are located near various residence halls throughout campus.
  • Securing bicycles to hand rails at any location can impede the safe evacuation of areas and is prohibited. In addition, bicycles are not to be secured to trees, lampposts or any landscape location. Bicycles may be impounded if you do so.

Removal

  • End of Semester – All students will need to secure their bicycles. If you are leaving Georgia Tech Housing for the upcoming semester, do not forget to take your bike with you. If you are going to live in housing for the upcoming semester, temporarily store your bike in your room until classes resume. All remaining bicycles will be removed  from all storage rooms and racks and donated to Starter Bikes at the end of spring semester.
  • During a Semester – Illegally parked bicycles will receive a warning notice. Should the warning be ignored, after 24 hours, the bicycle will be removed,  impounded, and donated at the end of spring semester to Starter Bikes

Retrieval (Impoundment)

During a semester illegally parked bicycles will receive a warning notice. Should the warning be ignored, after 24 hours, the bicycle will be removed, impounded, and donated to Starter Bikes at the end of spring semester. You may claim your bicycle from the Georgia Tech Housing Warehouse before the end of spring semester for an impound fee of $50.00 (Contact 404-735-4255 for more information).
