Sustainability in the Halls

As a resident at the Georgia Institute of Technology, you play a critical role in helping reduce the negative environmental impact of our halls in key areas such as waste, energy, and water. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the resources your Residence Hall can provide you regarding proper recycling and compost, saving water and energy, and otherwise being a good steward of our shared environment. Thank you for your interest in helping make Georgia Tech and our community a better place!

Where Waste Should Go

The Three Rules of Recycling include what not and what to do.

One big challenge we see in the halls is knowing where to put your waste to properly dispose of it. Follow the guide below:

To-Go Containers

Sidewalk containers outside the halls are for small items, and cannot accommodate larger items, such as dining to-go trash. Please participating in the reusable container program available in our dining halls to help further reduce waste in our residence halls.

Recycling

Find a list of what can be recycled on campus and where, plus a helpful video for residents about campus recycling on this page.

Dumpster locations

In most residence halls, your trash can be taken to the nearest dumpster location outside of your hall.

Composting

Many of our residence halls now include a composting option for your organic waste. Contact your nearest Eco-rep if you have any questions.

If You Live in North Ave:

The North Ave Apartments utilize trash chutes for their landfill waste, with recycling options in the trash rooms. Please follow signage in the trash rooms related to recyclable items.

Residents should not stuff items down the trash chutes. If it does not fit down the chute easily, items should be taken to the nearest dumpster. If trash chutes become clogged, please take all trash to the nearest dumpsters and call Housing Facilities to unclog the chute.
